The Awakening, set in 2013 in the North Side of Pittsburgh, is a poignant reflection of a condition deeply ingrained in African American families, where young men, swayed by peer influence, veer into violence. It chronicles the journey of Jason, who, entrenched in gang loyalty, overlooks the wisdom of his kin. Through the tender guidance of Gramma Sadie and Mr. Abdullah, wielding the “Shepherd’s Rod,” we witness Jason’s transformation. His story is a testament to the power of love and community in paving the path to redemption and new beginnings.
